Sam embarked on his academic journey at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University during a time of racial tension and social upheaval. As a young freshman, he found himself thrust into the heart of a protest, an experience that left an indelible mark on his spirit. Despite the challenges, Sam pursued his education with determination, earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1970. He later obtained an MBA from Duke University in 1981.
Following his studies, Sam embarked on a remarkable career, working for IBM in various managerial capacities and traveling internationally for 31 years. His dedication to education and his alma mater led him back to A&T, where he served as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology for 14 years. The commitment to his community and A&T was not just a job—it was a source of immense pride.
